Andrei has been recently described by a Hubb advisor as one of the dinosaurs of the Internet in Romania.
Being one of the first official GNU/Linux contributors in Romania (1993, www.gnu.org/software/gnuit/) and co-founder of RoEduNet (1996, www.roedu.net), the largest network of that time, built by a team of enthusiasts to offer free Internet to all students, he may be just that . Moreover, while at RoEduNet, he was instrumental in convincing Cisco officials to bring the well-known Cisco Networking Academy program in Romania in advance of any other country in SE Europe, establishing RoEduNet as the first CATC in the area, around 1999 a.d.
Having taken an active role between 1995-2000 in what was later known as “the .com bubble” being a contractor for US clients, and having developed many US based websites during that time frame, he has a keen eye for the details that may make or break an online business. Having established and managed a software development operation of a US online business in Romania during 2000-2004, he also knows what it takes to survive with an online business through a crisis that was later to be known as “the .com crash”.
He has a passion for teaching, and takes pride in teaching the Operating Systems class at the Politehnica University of Bucharest, the Computer Science Faculty (elf.cs.pub.ro/so/wiki/). By doing so, he learns a lot from his teaching assistants and students, to whom he is extremely grateful. He also has a passion for trainings, and is an inspiring lecturer on topics like leadership, communication, working in multi-cultural environments, open-source software, programming, technology etc.
His latest endeavor was serving as Country Manager of Ixia Romania, which grew from 30 people in 2005 to 200 people today and became a company listed in the top 100 companies to work for in Romania. He has been with Ixia through all this growth, hired a big part of today’s people, took it through the economic downturn in 2009 and is leaving it in a very good shape. Having been elected in 2008, he is still serving in the Board of ANIS (www.anis.ro).
Andrei is now off to start his own business(es) and to invest and/or mentor others in doing so. He can offer competent advice based on real proven experience on:
- any kind of technology, software development, scalable architectures, cost-effective solutions
- hiring the right people for the right job, successfully growing a company
- developing management talent, growing leaders, empowering people
- dealing with the american market, effective inter-cultural communication, tips and tricks
Most importantly, he always keeps his eyes, ears and mind open to learn from people, irrespective of age, gender and level of study. He keeps learning from his two daughters, Andra, 10 and Ilinca, 7, who happen to have more friends online now than he will ever have.
